The 5W Foundation is a private philanthropic foundation established to assist in the preservation and safeguarding of threatened wildlife and ecosystems around the world. Our vision is a world in which future generations can still experience this planet’s current magnificent biodiversity.

Information Collection

5W Foundation collects personal information about its visitors, donors, support applicants, and supported projects/teams. We also utilize the services of a third-party technology partner for the purposes of KYC/KYB identification and verification. Your level of interaction and engagement with our Foundation will determine the amount and type of information we will collect.

Log Data

We collect information that your browser sends whenever you visit our Service (“Log Data”). This Log Data may include information such as your computer’s Internet Protocol (“IP”) address, browser type, browser version, the pages of our Service that you visit, the time and date of your visit, the time spent on those pages and other statistics.

We may use the Log Data to collect information regarding the frequency with which specific visitors visit various parts of our Services. We may combine this information with personally identifiable information that we have collected to make our Services and our communications to you more targeted to your interests.

For European Economic Area (EEA) users, we do not track across web sessions in the absence of explicit consent.  We anonymize IP addresses and we do not associate IP addresses with individuals in our web analytics tools.

We use your Personal Information and usage data for providing and improving the Service. By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

We use your Personal Information for the purposes of KYC/KYB identification and verification, in accordance with anti-money laundering (AML) regulations.

The usage data may include your IP address, geographical location, browser type and version, operating system, referral source, length of visit, page views and website navigation paths, as well as information about the timing, frequency and pattern of your service use. The source of the usage data is our analytics tracking and cookies. (see above)

Donations – Private

If you give a private donation to 5W Foundation, we will ask for your name, postal address, email address, and will verify your identity as part of our KYC process. All donation amounts are subject to due diligence. Tax receipts will be discussed separately.

If you are giving a gift in honour or memory of another person, we will also ask you for relevant details and will speak with you personally on the arrangements.

Donations – Corporate

If you give a corporate donation to 5W Foundation, we will ask for your company name, your name, company postal address, contact email address, and will verify your company and nominated persons identities as part of our KYB/KYC process. All donation amounts are subject to due diligence. Tax receipts will be discussed separately.

Grants, Project Funding, and Awards

Please be advised that 5W Foundation does not provide direct financial support to any project or cause, and our support activities are strictly limited to our mission statement.

We periodically open our Project Support facility, whereupon any threatened wildlife or ecosystem project, group, organization or charity may apply to 5W Foundation for assistance. This assistance may only be tangible assets or advisory in nature, however the spectrum of support available is extensive and will be specified in the Project Support Portal. Full details of the applicant project, as specified at the time of application, will be required for consideration for assistance.

Information From Third Parties

5W Foundation sometimes uses third parties and publicly available sources to validate, update, and enrich the information you provide.  We do this to 1) ensure contact information such as email address, phone number, and mailing address are accurate and up to date, and 2) gather relevant demographic, financial, and biographical information about support applicants and donor prospects to inform internal business processes. 

Data Sharing

We do not sell personal information to anyone.

We will not use or share your information with anyone except as described in this Privacy Policy.

We do share personal information with third party vendors who are facilitating the delivery of 5W Foundation services, including development, maintenance and support, financial processing, email distribution, and promotions management; only as far as these vendors need the information to perform their services or as required and/or permitted by law. Separate additional use or sharing of the information may be permitted under another provision of our Privacy Policy.

Data Storage

The information you provide to 5W Foundation is stored in one or more databases or software services. All databases are owned and maintained by 5W Foundation or one of its third-party vendors or support services. Contractual data sharing and data privacy agreements are put in place with all third-party vendors to ensure proper use, maintenance, and disposal of data based on the nature of the services provided.

We keep your personal information for as long as needed or permitted considering the purpose(s) for which it was obtained. The criteria used to determine our retention periods include 1) for as long as we have an ongoing relationship with you and provide the Services to you; 2) as required by a legal obligation to which we are subject; or 3) as advisable in light of our legal position (such as in regard of applicable statutes of limitations and litigation).

We may employ third party companies and individuals to facilitate our Service, to provide the Service on our behalf, to perform Service-related services or to assist us in analyzing how our Service is used.

These third parties have access to your Personal Information only to perform these tasks on our behalf and are obligated not to disclose or use it for any other purpose.

Children’s Privacy

Our Service does not address anyone under the age of 18 (“Children”) and is not intended for visits from children under the age of 18.

We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 18. If you are a parent or guardian and you are aware that your child has provided us with Personal Information, please contact us. If we discover that a child under 18 has provided us with Personal Information, we will delete such information from our servers immediately.
