About Gorilla Doctors

Gorilla Doctors is the only organization in the world dedicated to saving mountain and eastern lowland (Grauer’s) gorillas through veterinary medicine, science and a One Health approach.

Our international veterinary team provides hands-on medical care to ill or injured wild gorillas living in the national parks of Rwanda, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

With only 1,063 mountain gorillas, and an ever decreasing number of Grauer’s gorillas left in the world today, the health and well being of every individual gorilla is vital to the species’ long-term survival.

Our veterinarians, guardians of gorilla health, monitor the health of mountain and Grauer’s gorillas year round.

Gorilla Doctors work is credited for half of the annual population growth rate of habituated mountain gorillas (habituated means they are accustomed to the presence of humans which allows our veterinarians to get close enough to administer treatment).
